Veterinarians
Dr. Phillip Lanzi attended the University of Maryland where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1981. He received his veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 1987. He is a member of AAHA as well as the well managed practice group, a unique collaboration of high quality small animal practice owners focused and dedicated to practicing gold standard medicine in a successfully managed practice. His special interests include laser surgery, radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid cats, and small animal ear disease. His hobbies include all water sports, snow skiing, tennis, and spending time with his wife, Jamie and their two kids, Caitlin and Trevor. They share their home with a Golden Retriever, Chance, a Jack Russell Terrier, Spencer, 3 cats, Lulu, Frankie, and Gizzie and a Gerbil, Ollie.
Dr. Gina Scarzella graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA in 2005. She then took the opportunity to live on Grand Cayman island and graduated from St. Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. In her spare time, she enjoys anything that has to do with the outdoors, concerts and playing with her dog Penny. Gina grew up in Wilmington, NC and is excited to be back working with the team at College Road!
Dr. Josh Hower grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology. He later returned to PA to receive his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. His areas of interest include general surgery and emergency medicine. Outside of work Dr. Hower enjoys fishing, hiking, driving his Jeep, and rooting for Philadelphia sports teams. Dr. Hower recently relocated to Carolina Beach after vacationing to the area with his family for over 20 years. He lives with his dog Keira, who enjoys going for long runs, swimming, and catching frisbees.
Dr. Allie Keresman grew up in the Midwest and on the East Coast. She attended the University of Delaware for her undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, with distinction, in 2016. Her areas of interest include general surgery, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. In her free time Dr. Keresman enjoys going to the beach with her husband and her dog Nikita, riding her horse Mystic, cooking, and painting. She also has two cats, Monty and Dohle.
Dr. Rebecca Cozart grew up in Hillsborough, North Carolina, and visited Wilmington regularly to see family. She received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science from North Carolina State University. In 2015, she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University in Alabama. She has been a community advocate and volunteer for animal care and shelter medicine. She is excited to move to Wilmington with her husband Charlie and their two boxers, Jack Bauer and Chloe O'Brian. Whether it was a trip to see family or friends, Wilmington has always held a special place in their hearts. In her free time Rebecca enjoys photography, fishing, and spending time at the beach.
Dr. Erin Culpepper grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and received her doctorate from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She also spent some time at UNCW as an undergraduate, and is excited to be back in Wilmington as a veterinarian. Dr. Culpepper enjoys both feline and exotic animal medicine, and has completed specialized veterinary training with Disney's Animals, Science and Environment, as well as exotic animal internships with Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD. Outside of work, Dr. Culpepper enjoys yoga, snow skiing and spending time with her husband and their 3 cats - Chester, Skittlez, and Mr. Miyagi.
Dr. Kim Smith graduated from Purdue University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Previous to that she earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at UNCW. Kim enjoys both internal medicine and general surgery. Kim and her husband, Adam, have lived throughout the country but have moved back to Wilmington to stay. Kim's favorite hobby is horseback riding and she has competed successfully in eventing for many years with her two horses, Mr. Knight & Louie. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs (Cooper, Petunia and Gale), and anything water related.
